I would remind those voting
I would remind those voting for Fred Thompson that he hasn't expressed any interest in the position. I think he'd make a great RNC chairman--but if he isn't thinking of running, there isn't much point in voting for him.
?
Who is the most tech savvy in that group?
Saul Aunzis founded a
Saul Aunzis founded a telecommunications company a few years back, so I'd say he is at least somewhat tech savvy.
Chip Saltsman's Internet campaign for Huckabee wasn't bad.
Nuts and bolts matter
We need a guy who can fix the decrepit mechanics of the party. Yes, a great talking head on TV is necessary ; but at the end of the day the votes that matter are cast in Georgetown , KY , not Georgetown, DC. A guy that wants to play DC "inside baseball" might make us feel better, but leave major problems in the hinterland unaddressed.
Aunzis
The guy apparently blogs, youtubes, facebooks, and twitters.

Let's learn from our mistakes
Fred wasn't too enthused about running for POTUS either. We drafted him and it didn't work out very well for anyone. We need someone that knows how to get things done and is willing to do the work to accomplish it.
Chip has a record of holding the job on the state level. How did he do there?
No option for a duumvirate or triumvirate?
It seems to me that at least three overarching traits are needed by a future RNC Chair.
Do any of the proffered choices meet all these criteria? I'm not so sure.
This is why I think we will need two or three people dividing up the labor. For example, Newt for ideological rigor, Fred for engaging the public and possibly the energetic Saul Anuzis for the nuts and bolts. (These are just possible examples. I'm not a partisan for a particular individual, but I think we do need people who can excel at each of the above three tasks)
According to the
According to the rules...
Isnt there supposed to be a chairman and chairwoman for the RNC?
RE: Is there supposed to be an RNC chairman and chairwoman?
Looks like yes. Wonder why only men are on the list? My two cents: General Chairman - Sarah Palin, Chairman - Michael Steele.
Steele/Saltsman
How about: General Chairman - Michael Steele
Chairman - Chip Saltsman
There's talk of "technology"
There's talk of "technology" here. I'm not persuaded that top-down "technology" will lead us to victory. We need to distinguish between opportunities... and distractions. Republicans should redouble efforts in the so-called purple states and nominate candidates who can win their races. Obama used text messages to remind his people to go out and vote on election day, an advantage that can easily be replicated. I think Steele would be an extremely capable spokesperson for the Republican Party.

Even if that means supporting RINOs?
I'm not persuaded that top-down "technology" will lead us to victory.
It seems to me the best use of the internet is to provide tools for people to self-organize.
I couldn't agree with you more.

Ron Paul
or Bob Barr. Or whoever. I vote we take a breather on the values party mantra and bring the libertarians back to the table.
We didn't do enough in the 90s. Lets show America we're serious about small government.
www.undersundog.com
No Ron Paul & here's why....
He's has been associated w/holocaust deniers, anti-semites & white supremacists groups in the past and hasn't tried to explain or break away from them: ( LINK1 ) & ( LINK2 ) . These groups account for most of his fundraising success, too. Ron Paul would be poison for the GOP. DD
You forget to mention the 9/11 truthers!
But seriously, even though I don't agree with his foreign policy views (but love his domestic ones) he did throw his lot in with much of the luantic fringe during his gadfly political campaign. He brought in a lot of so-called left-libertarians who saw him as a good anti-Iraq War, anti-War on Terror, anti-Israel, pro-Islamofacist appeasement candidate to his campaign as well. Much os these groups would see this as an oppurtunity to destroy the so-called neo-cons and actual conservatives in the GOP and would start causing all kinds of trouble for us.
Okay... can you please check out Devilstower's rant on
Breton woods, and then get back to me with what EXACTLY you think Ron Paul's 'return to the gold standard' would mean?
Ron Paul: 75% common sense 25% crazy.
Who Should Be the Next RNC Chairman? (w/o Newt)
139 votes for Fred Thompson? Excuse me, but I loved Fred Thompson....appreciated all that he stood for and even almost jumped ship from Romney to support Fred in his muche talked about bid for the Republican nomination. I'm glad I didn't because because I would have shown up to Thompson's campaign only to find out that Fred Thompson wasn't showing up to his own campaign. Believe me, I agree with Fred Thompson on most everything and truly love the way he is able to deliver the message when he is willing to. However, after seeing his abilities to do so on any regular basis, I can honestly say that we can't place the Party under his direction. Not when we need to focus on some things immediately. things such as the state legislative races that will take place in 2010 and the redistricting that those elected state legislatures will participate in. If they are dominated by Democrats, kiss any hopes for a rapid rise back to political preeminence because Democrats will gerrymander the life out of.
Thompson's energy level and drive is not anywhere near the level that we will require.
Steele's first place showing in this poll is a little more heartening. He at least has a suitable level of enthusiasm.
What we need is a Chairman who will establish a brain trust, a politcal executive committee or cabinet, that they involve in the strategy that they ultimately lay out. They need to bring in Gingrich for shaping the debate and presenting the ideas, Mike Steele to deliver that message, Romney for fundraising, Patricj Ruffini for outreach and communications and people like Katon Dawson and saul anuzis for helping layout the ground game.
Patrick Ruffini should be the new chairman of the RNC
It's time we stop naming brain dead Luddites to chair the Republican National Committee.
In order to win in 2010 and 2012 we must win the 18 to 29 year old age group, which McCain lost by a 2 to 1 margin.
Patrick Ruffini is the best person to accomplish this goal.
Join my campaign to nominate Patrick as the new Chairman of the RNC at http://www.michaelpatrickleahy.com
