how about...
..."none of the above" selection? Seriously. Just to be fair, impartical & inclusive. DD
Ken Blackwell is clearly our
Ken Blackwell is clearly our best choice.
The RNC Chairman needs three things: ability, appeal & most importantly the right political opinions. Blackwell meets these qualifications far and beyond any of the other options.
Most importantly he has the right political opions that the party must cling to over the next 4-8 Obama years. Blackwell is a strong fiscal conservative who adamently advocates for limited government.
Next, he has broad appeal. He's the former mayor of Cinncinatti, and a former US Ambassador to the UN. And he's obviously got the respect of key republican leaders, as he has already recieved official endorsements from such RNC leaders as Steve Forbes, Chuck Yob, Roger Villere & Gary Jones.
Finally, he's got the ability. Blackwell has proven time and time again that he can win difficult elections in a moderate state, even though he is such a strong conservative.
To me, it is a no-brainer. If you support Blackwell, make sure and vote in this straw poll so that Michael Steele supports don't steal the straw poll!
Dan.
Blackwell also Lost the Race for Ohio Governor by 24 Points
Admittedly, it was during a tough year for Republicans. But 24 points? In a state that trends Republican? I mean, even Mondale did better against Reagan in 1984.
Whatever you think of him, Michael Steele lost the Maryland Senate race by only 11 points, in one of the most Democratic states in the union.
Blackwell Has Won 13 of his
Blackwell Has Won 13 of his 17 Elections.
Roddyreta,
It's not fair to rip on Blackwell because of one bag election cycle. Blackwell was first elected as the mayor of Cincinnati in 1979. He's had nearly three decades of experience, and has an awesome track record of winning elections: 13 of 17 elections is pretty good!
Steele has only been in politics since the mid-1990s.
I think the world of Blackwell and what he has done for us in Ohio. I think he is a more skilled & experienced politician than Steele, but at the end of the day the reason I think Blackwell is a better option than Steele is because Blackwell is flat out more fiscally conservative than Steele.
Since these polls seem to be traffic bait...
...for supporters of various candidates, I thought I'd memorialize the results before anyone tries to drum up their supporters to vote. With 58, they are:
Steele 36%, Anuzis 22%, Blackwell 17%, Dawson 10%, Saltsman 9%, Duncan 5%
Politico calls Duncan
the favorite; this race is getting pretty personal between these men. I have a feeling things are going to start getting even uglier pretty soon.
I wouldn't recognize Mike Duncan
if I saw his face on a milk carton
Being a nice guy who can raise money is inadequate to the task at hand
Why the conspiracy against Sarah Palin?
Why the conspiracy against the grassroots of the party? The absence of a Sarah Palin choice in this poll speaks volumes about the utter disdain its author and his cohorts truly have for the grassroots of the party. Simply don't mention Sarah Palin and those dumb bastards will forget all about her.
If you really want to see just why the Republican Party is failing, all one need do is watch how the party and its elites deal with Sarah Palin.
We are watching.

Chair
Duncan is horrible. That Politico article is BS. Vote Michael Steele.
And what experience does Sarah Palin have at grassroots organization and new age media? Umm, none, that's why she's not up for consideration. Do you think she could break down the Congressional Districts like Steele or Rove?
People love her which is why Michael Steele should use her as one of many tools to rebuild our party.
The grassroots have already chosen Sarah Palin, pure and simple
No one can dispute the fact that the grassroots of the party has already chosen Sarah Palin as their leader. How dare they, the grassroots, choose their own leader rather than the party elite. This is the real issue at hand here, make no mistake about it. The party elite cannot allow anyone who has not been chosen by them to lead the party, period.
In the end, the position of RNC Chair is a political position above all else. In a tight Congressional district race, just one visit by the RNC Chair, Sarah Palin will decide the matter ...that's the type of RNC Chair the party needs, make no mistake about it.

Sarah Palin would be Crazy to Take the Job
Don't you think? I see no political advantage to her becoming chairman of the RNC.
You don't see a political advantage to her?
You don't see a political advantage to her on being on the national political stage for the next two years? You don't see the advantage to her of being the spokesperson for the Republican Party as it redefines its fiscal conservative roots and its absolute dedication to rebuilding a thriving and robust economy with increased economic opportunity for all? You don't see a political advantage to her in her 2012 presidential run in stumping for Republican Congressional candidates in their 2010 elections? Tell me the truth; you don't see any of this?

I mean no Political Advantage to Palin Herself
Palin's image is as a maverick, an independent-minded person who takes on the GOP establishment when necessary. I doubt she would want a job that would require her to become the very face of the Republican establishment. It would be too constraining, and dilute her appeal as an outsider.
Palin is going to be a star no matter what she does; there is little upside to her taking the job.
Some would say...
...having the Republican Party take on the image of a maverick, independent-minded party, willing to take on the establishment to get the economy moving again just might be the kind of change many of us knownothing grassrooters have in mind when they speak about changing the party. I think you sell Gov. Palin short if you think she will ever again play the part of second fiddle to anybody or anything.
In short, I don't see Sarah Palin taking on the leadership position of the RNC simply to become the face of the establishment. I see the RNC establishment taking up the mantel of a maverick, independent-minded Sarah Palin. This is an authentic trait of a true leader. You know, the kind of stuff Reagan had.

Michael Steele for RNC Chairman
SteeleforChairman.org
As chairman of the Maryland GOP, Michael Steele helped increase individual contributions by 300%, and increased Republican registrations significantly.
In 2003, Steele made history when he was elected Lt. Governor of Maryland, the first African-American elected to statewide office there. His was the first Republican administration in that state in better than 40 years.
Currently, Steele is a successful fundraiser and chairman of GOPAC.
Lt. Governor Steele is a gifted orator, a talented fundraiser, and a master debater. He is also what we may call a “Huckabee Republican,” one who puts family values first. His commitment to life is strong and long-standing. This is an area from which the current GOP has strayed, choosing to focus more attention on issues related to the enconomy and national security. The Washington Times said
I encourage you to support Lt. Governor Steele for Chairman of the RNC.

RNC Chair
This is a position that the General public does not elect. Conservatives need someone that actually speak to the people and has no desire to run for election and can speak the truth. That man is Fred Thompson, have you seen his youtube video on his economic holiday cheer, tremendous!
Like it was was asked of Seuperman in Superman II, Fred Thompson, Where are you?
We need someone who can convey Truth, justice and the American Way!
Senator, you said that if the people asked, you would serve. We are asking sir, please go after this position. We need you now, more than ever to convey true Conservatism to the General public. We need a strong figure to represent the party and to go after the Democrats and President-Elect Obama with the fire that is necessary!
FRED FOR RNC
Go to Fred08 and tell the Senator, we need him now!
I think Michael Steele the best choice
Michael Steele is the perfect person for RNC chairman. He has no baggage. Unfortunately though I like Sarah Palin there is a group that is out to get her and not all of us like her animal welfare position. I have some concerns about how she considers animals. I don't want to see us go nuts but I do want to have some protection for them. I support hunting, it's kinder than a slaughterhouse by far. But I'd like to see an alternative plan for dealing with the wolf population in Alaska and elsewhere...IF POSSIBLE.
I do however think SP would make a great Senator after her time as governor is up, maybe she should go for a second term as gov. She's been good for Alaska.
