Outstanding pick, if true. Chicago Trib's Jill Zuckman says it's a done deal.

Three female Clinton
Three female Clinton supporters have told me this morning that if McCain picks a woman they'll support McCain. Good Pick!
Ditto
My friends are saying the same. We all feel she is a good choice and he has our vote! My husband even likes the idea. He feels she will help secure McCain the winning ticket. Good pick indeed!
Dunno.
CNBC is reporting it as true.
ABC says she's still in Alaska.
Love it.
I would love it. To start with she is very conservative and will appeal to the base. I love his pick being a woman. McCain has not done as well among woman as Obama. This can only help.
Obama talks a lot about change but has no track record of it and his first big decision was choosing a 36 year liberal senator for his running mate. That does not sound like change I can believe in.
This is more proof that McCain is the one with the track record. McCain makes a bold pick of a reformer from outside of the beltway.
Bravo!
Not only is she a brilliant choice, but notice how disciplined the McCain campaign is today! Staying on message and moving the story away from Obama's lackluster performance last night.
Sarah...
...who?

exciting but risky
Risky on a couple levels... for the immediate campaign, there's her lack of experience which may undermine some of the charges against Obama ("If experience is so important to John McCain then why did he choose a 1-year governor blah blah blah"). A lot will depend on how she does debating, e.g., foreign policy with Biden. Also I heard her office was under investigation for some sort of corruption charge, though I can't find anything about that now so maybe that is nothing. It's also risky for the future of the GOP, since she seems to be something of a rising star for them, and if McCain-Palin loses, then she's now known as a losing VP candidate, which it's tough to come back from (cough john edwards cough).
But damn if I'm not excited anyway.
Fantastic pick
I'm pumped. I am ready to give money to McCain for the first time after this brilliant choice.
What a disaster.
But hey, maybe it's not such a bad thing that Parnell lost after all...
Palin
Well today I have officially become excited about John McCain and President.
I intend to volenteer for this campaign. Maybe I am now seeing what Soren Dayton was trying to tell us at his old blog! Being a Maverick is good!
oops
I see that in all my excitement, I have forgotten how to spell.
Awesome pick
She has so many very positives including approval ratings in the 80-90s. The one negative is her age and experience, but then again, does the Obama campaign really want to go there?
Awesome pick. This could be HUGE for his campaign.
From the Huckabee camp: LOVE IT!!
Sarah was our pick to be Mike's veep if he'd garnered the nomination. Pro-Life and traditional values to the core.
We are thrilled that Mac did not bend to the pressure to select 'he who shall not be named,' and that he didn't go with Huck-Lite Pawlenty which would have been percieved as a slap in the face.
This pick does no harm, unifies the base, and taps into hillary's disaffected women. The screams coming out of NBC and affiliates are testement to the fact that this was a game changer.
We could only be happier if the pick was Huck himself.
As it stands, we'll take Mitt on head to head in a fair fight when that day comes, if ever.
Rensen I am glad we can agree
I always felt that Huck's lack of real fiscal credentials, due to his excessive spending habits as Ark Gov, would make him an uninspiring choice as P or VP.
So I think it's doubly great to see that we agree Palin is a great pick. And good to see many parts of the GOP base are thrilled by this great selection.
Prolife, progun, tough on spending, pro-family, and a 'normal' person.
"As it stands, we'll take Mitt on head to head in a fair fight when that day comes, if ever." - You protest too much. really. Mitt will never be President, IMHO, he might not even try again. I do find the hits on Mitt to be churlish. Let this be a McCain / Palin moment and put such things to bed.
I'm not sure it's true.
But we will see what happens in Ohio today.
This is such an insult to women.
If McCain wins and something happens to him, I cannot even imagine having this woman as a president. My God, it's a scary thought. And the Republicans have the audacity to say that Obama is inexperienced and unqualified? This woman is unqualified and was a MAYOR not even two years ago!
This is such an insult to women.

I'm saying it now: President Barack H. Obama, Jr., 2009 - 2017
Obamaniac hypocrite on the loose
"the Republicans have the audacity to say that Obama is inexperienced and unqualified? This woman is unqualified and was a MAYOR not even two years ago!"
Excuse me. Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama. Sarah Palin has actually stood up to corruption, back in 2005 when Obama was getting that nice house deal from Rezko.
Sarah Palin is leading a state. All Obama led prior to running for president was ACORN activist training sessions!!
To lambaste Palin because she doesnt have enough experience is the ultimate in hypocrisy.
Palin has walked the walk of reform while all Obama did was talk the talk.
" I cannot even imagine having this woman as a president."
You are a narrowminded bigot who is stuck in the past and cant connect to the hopes of real Americans. Well imagine it, because it will happen: a prolife pro-2ndA conservative self-reliant conservative reformer and Mom who rises to be Vice President and perhaps one day President.
Oh, and unlike the unmitigated disaster that an Obama administration will be - SHE WILL ACTUALLY BE GOOD.
You, Sir, are the real insult to women
Sarah Palin has accomplished more in 20 months in Alaska than the previous administration of Alaska did in 12 years. And considering what you've all had to say about the past 8 years of Bush incompetency, she should be a very welcome change to you. But the problem is, you don't want real change - you merely want redistribution of wealth and the end of capitalism so that you can continue oppressing the poor and the minorities for another century.
The real irony of the Invesco speech was not its content or its audience size, but the fact that it was given on a day that honors one of the greatest Republicans of our time: Reverend Martin Luther King.
Yes, go look it up. Democrats are the real party of Jim Crow racism, and the Ku Klux Klansmen were the party's shock troops. Just ask Robert Byrd. I'm sick of the lies, the cover-ups and the hypocrisy. Gloves are off now, Gentlemen. You people are ignorant, propagandized and historically challenged.
Real change is coming to Washington all the way from the great state of Alaska, not from Joe Biden who's been building cronyism and special interest loyalties since Sarah Palin was an 8 year old. It's so obvious that the thought of it is absolutely terrifying the Left. As Sarah'cuda would say, "Tough".
Considering Biden had two life threatening aneuryrsms
go back and worry about what happens to America if he dies and Barack Obama becomes President
What was McCain thinking.
Yes she will make history (although she's not the first woman on the VP ticket) but "Is she ready to lead" ? McCain's droning argument against an Obama presidency just was shot full of holes.
This woman is against abortion rights for women. Does the GOP think that women are that stupid that they will vote for just any woman? I guess so. The McCain camp is desperate after the Biden pick by Obama.
What was McCain thinking. My vote will go to Obama. This was a terrible choice for VP and really makes me question his judgement.

I'm saying it now: President Barack H. Obama, Jr., 2009 - 2017
What McCain was thinking if your were wondering...
That he wouldn't get your vote anyway. Your pretty much in love with your beloved "Barack H. Obama, Jr", and nothing is going to take your rose colored glasses off.
I'm personally excited for the VP pick. I will probably volunteer and help out now. Where as before I was going to pinch my nose on election day. And I do believe some people I knew who said they would vote third party might be able to stomach a vote for Mcain now.
Absolutely Stunning
And right in line with Ross Douthat's Grand New Party platform. She's a populist, a reformer, a conservative from working class roots (dad was an elementary school teacher), her husband's a Yup'ik Eskimo with years of experience in environmentally sound oil extraction, she's pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, a hockey-playing maverick of the female persuasion who's articulate, drop-dead gorgeous, well spoken, even-tempered, and best of all where Joe Biden's concerned, her nickname is "Barracuda". She kicks ass and chews gum at the same time. PUMAs will love her and she could bring Republican women voters out in droves for the first time in history. And since women make up 54% of the vote, well - that's a wrap folks.
Now we can focus on protecting the people of the Gulf and the convention becomes a no-nevermind overnight. Who cares? No convention could generate as much excitement as the buzz today. Republicans, be proud of John McCain. He has done for this party what was said to be impossible: he's rebranding it in the most positive, personable, effective, competent possible way. Women, be proud of how far we've come in the last century. This is our year, this may even be our century, and oddly enough we can actually thank Hillary Clinton for leading us into it with her 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. As Bill Kristol likes to say, the great thing about a Democracy is that you can lie about your vote. I feel quite certain I know who Hillary Clinton will be voting for in November. It won't be Barack Obama and Joe Biden. My gut tells me that this is the layup for a Clinton/Palin showdown in 4-8 years. Wait for it. It's coming.
flabbergasted by this choice
can't see how it will help. Looks kind of desperate to me. Curious to hear her introduction and speech and learn what about her background makes some people excited by this pick.
Palin pick is inspired, bold and correct
Nothing desperate. What's desperate are the trolls trying to spin this negatively.
McCain has the election and the White House in mind.
1) She is a reformer. She can help him govern as a reform-oriented VP.
2) She is a conservative. BINGO. The base is elated and he nails down solid GOP support. (And avoids the downside of alternative non-conservative choices).
3) She is a Governor and *outside* DC. She has executive experience that neither Biden nor Obama has and can actually live up to the mantra Obama put forward about the need for new people in DC.
4) She is a woman. This shatters the GOP stereotyping that Dems love to play to. The Dems wanted 2008 to be a 'special year' and spent the primary battling out identity politics. McCain comes along and says "yes, lets make history" You can make history by voting into office our first woman Vice President.
Palin is ready and qualified to make history.
PUMA now means: Palin Unqualified My A**!
My hat's off...
...to the McCain folks. They are showing that they are not going the typical Washington route. She is anti-corruption and a populist. Two things that the GOP needs for it's image to recover.
It is a bit risky, but the more I learn about her this morning the more she has to offer.
Great pick!
I'm really excited about this choice.
It's not that she's a woman. That may help with the campaign but it's not why I like her.
She is solidly conservative, strong, experienced with energy issues, and has been effective.
No matter that her executive experience is a little lite. It's still more than the other three candidates put together.
Now, I will write a check.
FINALLY! A V.P.I.L.F
This is indeed a VP that I could get behind all the way.
LOL
You are so utterly incorrigible, but it is true - she's absolutely America's Sweetheart .
I love that all our red blooded knuckle-dragging Republican and Independent and Democratic conservative men are falling madly in love with her overnight. I think it's a very wholesome crush to have, because in a way, it's a crush on everything wonderful about Main Street America.
My husband asked me if he'd get in trouble if he told me how excited he was about her. LOL - I was reminded of a particularly fun episode of Married With Children, and said "uh...Nope, not at all!". Heh. Ladies, this works well for us also. She's a great pick in every possible way. ;-)
McCain/Palin 2008 SUPER TICKET!!!
i am really energized over McCain's Palin pick. I like what I have read about her. I too am donating to the McCain 2008 Campaign....Obama bin Biden will lose this campaign. I am convinced of it now. Talk about change...How refreshing!
McCain Came Through!
McCain really does want to win this thing.
Palin will be a huge boost to his ticket, no question. Just look at how upset liberals are about this pick, and contrast it to how giddy conservatives were at the Biden pick.
It also is strategically brilliant because it will put the energy debate right back in the Democrat's faces. Here is the Governor of Alaska saying we need to drill more in Alaska to secure our nation's energy supplies, and the Democrat ticket from the Northeast saying we shouldn't. Energy is the number one domestic priority on voter's minds, in my opinion, and it's an issue the public overwhelmingly sides with the Republicans on.
It's going to be hard for Obama to go after Palin's lack of experience, since she has more Executive experience being both a mayor and Governor. It also opens Obama to that attack if he tries to make the point that experience is important. Also, she's in the VP slot, not the one actually occupying the White House, big difference.
Republicans need to reach out more to women voters, the Democrats have taken too many female voters that should be Republican (ie soccer moms)
Great strategery by McCain!
McCains choice
I am finally interested in this election
Her lack of experince is refreshing - maybe this what the country needs
Anyone that can acomplish what this woman has and sticks with her views has my support
She doesnt lack experience
She has accomplished more in her years of executive experience than Biden has in his lifetime of Senatorial gasbaggery.
Obama/Biden is the thin ticket. ZERO EXECUTIVE OFFICE EXPERIENCE!
What Palin lacks is those years of inside-the-beltway experience that turns honest public servants into slimy Gollom-like toads for partisan special interests.
This is not a particular hit on Joe Biden (D- MBNA) since palin has been running up against the GOP examples of same in Alaska (Young/Stevens).
She lacks nothing. She is ready to be the understudy to the very capable John McCain.
I think this is awesome!
Just exactly the person I had been hoping for!
I also think everybody is trying to contribute to the campaign right now, because I've been waiting for a long time myself. The deadline this weekend might also be a factor...
McCain/Palin 2008!
The true uniters and ethics reformers.
This choice is really growing on me.
Palin brings nearly everything to the table that McCain could want in a running mate.
