Send Lawyers, Guns and Money....
For those who know Warren Zevon, well the next line in the song is about what is going to happen to Senator Obama
A 5-4 decision of the Supreme Court has restated the "right to keep and bear arms" clause of the Second Amendment in the Heller case. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080626/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_guns
Obama is trying to explain away his prior support for the D.C. gun ban as being "inartful". Well artful dodger, you can't outrun your voting record in Illinois.
The NRA points out that as an Illinois State Senator Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and criminalize the use of handguns for personal self-defense http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=3991 ( Illinois Senate, March 25, 2004 SB 2165, vote 20.)
And is Senator Obama going to throw his webmaster under the bus as "inartful" "REALITY: OBAMA HAS CONSISTENTLY SUPPORTED COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL .."http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/12/11/fact_check_no_news_in_obamas_c.php
And you know who agrees with this assessment----that reliable member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy---CBS News!
Obama regularly supported gun-control measures, including a ban on semiautomatic "assault weapons" and a limit on handgun purchases to one a month.
He also opposed letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation.
Supporters framed the issue as a fundamental question of whether homeowners have the right to protect themselves.

Obama may be an Ivy League lawyer, and he is awash in money, but he is going to find that on guns, as ole' Warren said ...the "Sh-t has hit the fan" when he tries and pretend he really thinks Americans have the right to defend themselves in their own homes.
Because he never believed it before.

Obama: This is for all the "bitter" people...
"I know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne," Obama says in a statement issued by his campaign. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/06/obama-invokes-w.html
Translation: "yeah, I have to make nice about this decision to appease all those rubes out there, but as President you can be sure your Blue State will be able to hassle gun owners just like this never happened"
By the way, maybe our Ivy League Con law professor can explain how a right found in the penumbras of the 4th, 5th, 9th and 14th Amendment (abortion) must be applied in the same fashion in all of the 50 states, but a right specifically enumerated in the Bill of Rights is subject to being governed by the principles of federalism?
If Obama is consistent in how he believes Heller is to be applied; then he must favor the rather sharp limitation of the precedential effect of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton.
I aso note that trying to condition the application of one's individual rights based on state customs and practices might seem a bit more like Dred Scott http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dred_Scott_v._Sandford than Katzenbach v. McClung .http://www.oyez.org/cases/1960-1969/1964/1964_543/
Why , oh Master of Hope and Change, does the Second Amendment mean something different in Illinois than in Idaho?
What if Justice Kennedy had joined the four anti-gun justices?
And remember he was part of the five votes against individual rights in Kelo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._City_of_New_London
Would Obama be praising the majority decision then as recognizing "what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne" and that D.C. should have the right to adopt "common sense gun control"?
It's always difficult for someone with a collectivist mentality to properly explain the concept of individual rights---that is, except for the rights of criminal defendants.
Geez, Obama's flip-flopping
makes John Kerry's look mild in comparison. And this business of "what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne" is about as elitist and racist as one can get. The geographics may be different but what's different about someone wanting to protect themselves and their families? (in addition to the "shall not be infringed" part)
Wanna bet that his daughters are protected by gun-carring body guards?
