NY 23: Time to pivot, Doug
I'll be short and to the point.
Doug, the mission of getting the national conservative movement engaged is accomplished..
Stop cancelling local forums to do more national interviews. Right now the most important media people in your world are the anchors for the 5,6 and 11 pm news in Syracuse.
Make sure you have something useful to say about the arcane local issues. The "throw out the bums" voters are with you. Upstaters are very practical people though. They will not elect a Congressman who doesn't share their concerns over Thruway tolls, Indian land claims and the future of Ft. Drum.
Wear the white hat. Don't risk this by getting snarky.
And realize that Scozzafava and Owens have a hard core of loyalists up in the North Country. They think that's the whole 23rd District. So spend the time you need in the "South Country"....the counties along I-90 and I-481. (Oswego, Fulton, Madison and Oneida). That's 40% of the district and your opponents have no local roots there.
That's it. Now it's time to execute.

All Politics is Local!
Good commentary.
Hoffman has already "won" one particular battle, which was over the soul and future of the GOP. An attempt to sell out the GOP created a huge backlash and we will no longer do the foolish "let elect this miserable liberal pandering RINO just because they are supposedly more electable".
Wrong.
But now comes the sale and execution to get into Congress. Hoffman is flush with money and the critical point is to win every voter possible. Go to every local venue, make all local media availabilities you can... GO LOCAL.
Don't think he's taking your advice, Ironman
I just visited all three websites. How could any candidate not have an "Issues" or "Positions" page? Scozzafava and Owens do, Hoffman does not. Hoffman has nothing but references to the national names and organization endorsements. I don't live anywhere near the district, but the GOP and Dem websites clearly have a "local flavor" to them. Hoffman's looks and feels so bland and generic, and imparts no information to give any indication he is involved in and aware of major local issues. The website combined with his performance with the editorial board screams that he's a puppet of national organizations. I know that is in fact what he is, a proxy for the split with the GOP, but I sure hope a candidacy like his never comes to my area. I'd like to think my reps have at least passing familiarity with local concerns and issues.
Not sure they really expect this to take off
I think when this started the point was solely to make sure the NYS GOP never again blew off the local Conservative Party for a nomination. This guy was polling in the teens just two weeks ago. Now they caught the car they were chasing.
Anyway, I'm not running his website.
One thing to remember is lots of people get elected as protest candidates. It's hard to get re-elected on the same platform.
