Scozzafava Endorses Democrat

As a Vice Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party, I have been involved in the Special Election to replace Congressman McHugh from the beginning.

Personally, I opposed Dede because she is radically pro-abortion, a rare Republican who voted twice to legalize gay marriage, in favor of card check, refused to rule out the public option, and supported Obama's stimulus. When I warned friends in the national Republican Party that she is way to the Left of the voters in this district they refused to listen and dumped a million dollars into her race. I also speculated that if she won she would likely switch parties.

Today's, news that she endorsed the Democrat did not come as a surprise to me. Throughout this race I have been disappointed about how tone deaf most national Republicans have been to the millions of Americans who see candidates like Dede as the problem and not the solution.

Local Republicans (outside of New York where moderate Republicans have virtually destroyed their party) in Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and elsewhere took it upon themselves to endorse our candidate Doug Hoffman . They understood what Newt, the RNC, and NRCC failed to comprehend: Millions of Americans feel that their country is being subverted by big government liberals and they are not interested in winning elections with the wrong candidates.

The national Republicans are so clueless that they praised Dede for suspending her campaign. Until the end they did not know that she is a Left wing opportunist not a loyal Republican.

On Friday, a leading Republican in the House asked me what the Republican Party should do to win back the trust of conservatives. I said run conservative candidates and continue to build a record of opposing Left wing policies. This Republican expressed a fear that third parties will emerge across the country. I told him a third party movement will materialize if the Republican Party does not embrace the majority of Americans who consider themselves conservatives.

Tedisco On The Way To Defeat? His Lead Has Disappeared

A while back I argued that it was a mistake for conservatives to make Jim Tedisco their standard bearer in the campaign against Obama and the Democrats. Tedisco is a a McCain-lite Republican who has done everything he can to not offend Obama. He even refused to state opposition to the massive Federal bailouts. Now a new Sienna College Poll shows that Tedisco has blown a substantial lead and is trailing his Democrat opponent. Tedisco's Obama friendly campaign has erased his 12 point lead and turned it into a four point deficit. Once again conservatives will stay home and Tedisco will probably end up a loser.

New York's 20 is a center right district that a conservative should win but Tedisco has run away from the conservative label and because some high profile conservatives have backed him his defeat will be seen as an endorsement of Oabma's agenda. Another setback for our comeback.

The Emasculation of Hillary Clinton Continues

The key to understanding Obama is to appreciate that politics trumps all other considerations when he makes a decision. During the campaign many noted how he "threw under the bus" his mother, his pastor, his long-time foreign policy adviser, etc. when they became political liabilities. Since winning the election politics continues to reign supreme. His first appointment to the new Administration was his political director. And it was not a coincidence.

His political handiwork could be seen in his trek down to the Capitol to talk to House Republican leaders and to his surgical removal of Hillary Clinton from any important foreign policy decisions. Even before Hillary's confirmation her political dissection began to take place. She had to endure the public examination of Bill's foundation contributors and the humiliation of having her number 2 at State appointed without consulting her.

But all this pales in comparison to Obama's decision to set up a White House centric foreign policy apparatus. Not content with only the National Security Council residing in the White House, Obama created the posts of Envoy reporting to him and not the State Department. In his announcement of the first mission of Middle East Envoy George Mitchell the President himself, sitting between Clinton and Mitchell, made it abundantly clear that the Middle East was a priority for this Administration and that Mitchell ( who will report to him) was being charged by the White House and not the Secretary of State.

Then today, the Associated Press is reporting that Obama's friend and adviser Samantha Powers, who left the campaign because she called Hillary a "monster", is coming back as a senior White House foreign policy adviser. Up until now Powers has been serving as the head of a State Department transition team and you can bet Hillary did not choose her for that job.

By selecting Clinton, Obama rid himself of his most dangerous political adversary. In her new role, Clinton is forbidden to participate in poltics. And now he has effectively marginalized her as a force within the Administration. The question is how long will Hillary stay. I would guess until Obama fulfills his pledge to pay off her campaign debt.

The Last Time I saw Peggy Noonan She Was At The Vatican

Several  years ago, I sat through a somewhat annoying program at the John Paul II auditorium in Vatican City moderated by Peggy Noonan.

Noonan embarrassed the Cardinal in attendance by repeatedly referring to the living Pope as a Saint. She was clearly off base and a young monk sitting near me said so.

Noonan has worn her Catholicism on her sleeve in books and in appearances.

Now this public Catholic has come full circle. She has endorsed Barak Obama for President.

I guess her conscience compelled her to fleetingly address Obama's abortion stance. But even here she pulls her punches. She does not mention that Obama supports partial-birth abortions, the barbaric killing of humans. Instead she chastises him for being too much of an intellectual when he said that the abortion question was above his pay grade.

In her endorsement, she declares that liberalism has triumphed (while on the same page Democrat Doug Schoen argues that Obama's victory is not a mandate for specific change) and she paints a most unflattering personal picture of McCain.

I know people who worked with Noonan in the White House who accused her of  taking credit for work others had done. Now, out on her own she seems like a valueless political pundit who is throwing Reaganism out the window.

Don't be surprised if she is the first "conservative" to interview Obama, if he wins.

Mitt Romney's Anti-Palin Crusade

The American Spectator is reporting that Republican operatives on behalf of Mitt Romney are actively trying to sink Sara Palin.

This is the second credible source who has reported this to me.

The Specator piece also mentions how unhelpful Romney has been to other Republican candidates.

This election has shown the worst side of the Republican Party. Along with being ideologically adrift, the Party has an abudance of "supporters" who need to learn Ronald Reagan's Eleventh Commandment. Republicans should not speak ill of fellow Republicans.

There is no need to detail the premediated, destructive attacks of David Frum, Peggy Noonan, and Mitt Romney. There is need to remember those who let the Democrats off the hook by directing their fire on Republicans.

National Review Online has a longish defense of Romney. The majority of this piece is a compelling defense of Romney being active this campaign season. The paragraph on Palin is not persuasive.

Values Voters Speak UP

Obama's Jesse Jackson Problem

Speaking about an Obama Administration, Jesse Jackson lashes against so-called Zionists who control America.

Will McCain raise this in tonight's debate? Its a potent issue.

McCain Getting Blasted In Pennsylvania

Spent the weekend in Pennsylvania and could not escape Obama health care commericals accusing McCain of planning to impose the first ever tax on health care benefits.

Obama is running at least two commercials on this issue with white women bemoaning the threat from McCain. McCain's failure to answer this attack will be devestating.

The only fight back I saw was a Republican National Committee ad accusing Obama of b8ing a big spender. It charges Obama with wanting to spend a trillion dollars!!

Having just watched a Republican President (supported by McCain) ram through a $700 billion bail out on top of a $300 billion package the RNC ad is clearly barking up the wrong tree. No one believes McCain or any politican will cut spending.
