White House brings Chicago to the Supreme Court

Headline:

Two senior Supreme Court justices are expected to attend the White House reception Wednesday morning to honor Justice Sotomayor: Ruth Bader Ginsburg and John Paul Stevens.

Now, it *could* just be a coincidence (1 in 6 odds that two choosen from 9 are in the leftmost 4).  But given that the other invitees are all leftist politicians (Leahy, Conyers, etc...), perhaps the White House felt that someone like John Roberts or (gasp) Clarence Thomas would feel out of place.

Really

You don't seriously think that the people who voted against Sotomayor would go to a party on the occasion of her appointment?

Yes, Really

Supreme Court Justices are historically cordial to each other, no matter how they write their opinions.  Unlike the current administration, they can separate their opinions of the law from their opinions of each other. As an example, Scalia and Ginsburg regularly go to the opera together (they are fans of opera, their spouses are not).  Just because much of the Supreme Court overturned one of Sotomayor's decisions does not mean that they would not welcome her with open arms to the court.
